The quartet made its debut at Konserthuset in 2012 and has returned a couple of times since then, most recently in 2020.
French Élise Bertrand (also active as a violinist) composed "Lui e loro" specifically for the Modigliani Quartet. She was inspired by a photograph from World War II depicting the bombings and destruction of the Monte Cassino monastery in Italy. Everything lay in ruins, but a white statue of Jesus remained, "as a symbol of resistance and hope."
More French music. Maurice Ravel was 28 when he wrote his only string quartet in 1903. It is considered by many to be his first masterpiece. Here, there is much individuality, outstanding richness of colour, and rhythmic liveliness.
Tchaikovsky's third and final string quartet is often considered one of his finest chamber music works. It has a Czech connection: his friend and colleague at the Moscow Conservatory, the Czech violinist Ferdinand Laub, had passed away, and Tchaikovsky composed the music in his memory.

A handful of young musicians and ensembles from various countries are selected each year and given the opportunity to tour the concert halls and perform before international audiences. Experience shows that those who are selected as Rising Stars also have internationally successful careers.
The French Quatuor Agate took their name from Brahms's incredibly beautiful second string sextet, which he dedicated to one of his great loves, Agathe von Siebold (the other being Clara Schumann). The quartet has been awarded several prizes, including for the best performance of new music at the Banff International String Quartet Competition in Canada, and the audience prize at the Verbier Festival. Their recent debut album delves deeply into Brahms, featuring all three string quartets.
On the program, they also include Joseph Haydn's quartet commonly known as "The Joke," referring to his first substitution of a minuet movement with a scherzo, Italian for a joke or jest. Between Haydn's classical quartet and Korngold's restless and energetically explosive third string quartet, Quatuor Agate presents a newly composed piece by the exciting Ukrainian singer, pianist, organist, conductor, and composer Anna Korsun.

They visited Konserthuset for a highly acclaimed concert in 2014 and also performed at Fotografiska. All in line with the ensemble's desire to break away from the traditional and familiar.
During their eagerly awaited return to Konserthuset, the programme ranges from British Baroque to French Betsy Jolas's third string quartet from 1973, which, in nine parts, explores the mysterious universe of music. A completely different character is found in Mozart's String Quartet in C Major, often called the Dissonant Quartet due to its long and striking introduction, which today we do not find particularly dissonant.
After Arvo Pärt's meditative Solfeggio, Brooklyn Rider concludes with Brahms's wonderful third string quartet. The opening and closing movements are characterized by a delightful and fervent temperament, with tender and luminous music in between.

One of the most performed and beloved is No. 14, with opus number 131. Here, it seems as if Beethoven is searching for the freedom of thought and soul through his music. Perhaps that's also why this music speaks so strongly to us, with its warmth, imagination, and intensity, transcending all historical barriers. And the slow, dense first movement is among the most beautiful ever created for a string quartet.
The Belcea Quartet is one of the world's most prominent string quartets. The quartet has performed at Konserthuset Stockholm on several occasions previously, including in a series of concerts featuring all of Beethoven's string quartets.
Here, instead, the quartet combines Beethoven with Arnold Schönberg, whom many associate with twelve-tone music. But Schönberg was a great romantic, and the string quartet we hear here, the first of four numbered ones, was his first truly major composition. It is music brimming with wild energy and swelling late romanticism, composed in 1905 in Vienna, a city that had a significant influence on Schönberg with its vibrant art scene and Freud's psychological investigations.
