Cuarteto Casals
Dizzingly beautiful and playful with a leading Spanish string quartet.
The award-winning Cuarteto Casals is a cherished guest at Konserthuset Stockholm. During the Beethoven year in 2020, the quartet performed the composer’s complete string quartets over six concerts throughout the year. At their most recent visit in 2022, they presented Bach’s masterpiece Die Kunst der Fuge (The Art of Fugue).
Now, Cuarteto Casals returns with late string quartets by Joseph Haydn and Franz Schubert, framing a 2024 work by Spanish-American composer Elisenda Fábregas. Her Fiery Earth draws on Spanish influences and is based on a very old liturgical melody.
Haydn’s masterful Quartet in D major, Op. 76 No. 5, comes from his final set of string quartets, while Schubert’s Fifteenth Quartet was his last. In this music, it is as if Schubert seeks to encapsulate the full range of human emotion – with breathtaking melodies, playfulness, reflection, and passion.
